Speech Competition Has Rich Roots

McDaniel’s Communication Department will host its 13th Annual Speech Contest Thursday, Dec. 3, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Decker Auditorium

Featured speakers/competitors will be from public speaking classes past and present.

Roots for this contest date back to 1890, the time that the college’s Department of Elocution launched a contest and offered $20 and $30 prizes.

The 13th Annual Speech Contest also features prizes “that allow for inflation, [but are] nowhere near as generous,” explained Dr. Deborah Vance, Associate Professor & Chair of Communication.

*Scrumptious snacks and beverages will be provided beginning at 5:45 p.m.*
