Image000Birdies, a new cafe at 233 East Main Street, had its grand opening on Friday, September 17. With its relaxing earth-toned walls and writing-my-first-novel feel, Birdies is the perfect place to stir motivation before classes or relieve tension after a long day while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee.

The cafe offers its delicious rich roasted house blend as well as macchiato, mochas, lattes and espresso. Juice, tea, milk, soda and smoothies are on the menu as well, along with the Snowbird, an instant favorite. This luscious ice-blended treat comes in Mocha, White Mocha, Coffee, Chai, and Caramel and has the option of being topped with homemade whipped cream. Drinks are ten percent off for McDaniel and Carroll Community students.

Bring your appetite as well because Birdies gives food for thought with their homemade muffins, cupcakes, and soup, as well as scrumptious sandwiches. The menu has a sandwich for everyone: Grilled Cheese, Lox, Roast Beef and more. Vegetarians need not fret as Birdies has a Hummus plate as well as a vegetarian sandwich, which comes with tomatoes, avocado, onion, cucumber, spinach, roasted red pepper and hummus spread. Bread options include sourdough, rye, wheat, pita, croissants, or bagels.

Study while you eat because Birdies has free wifi. The cafe is also artist compatible with an art gallery, live music every Saturday, and poetry every third Saturday. It is sure to be a hit with McDaniel students.
