Thanks to the idea for a prom by RA Victoria Pickett and the planning by the entire RA staff, McDaniel College successfully pulled off its first all-campus college prom, officially titled the Snowball. Taking a break from the stresses of schoolwork and classes, nearly 200 students decked out in prom attire enjoyed delicious catered food and danced the night away.

Though the price of the event was 20 dollars, paying for a ticket was well worth the price. Walking in the Forum, students were able to enjoy catered food that provided a nice break from eating in Glar. The menu consisted of fresh salad, steamed vegetables, alfredo tortellini with vegetables, potatoes and asiago cheese chicken. If students were still hungry after that, chocolate cake and apple pie were available for dessert.

Once the famous Cha-Cha Slide started playing, the dancing really got underway with almost everyone in attending dancing on the dance floor. Throughout the long night, the prom kept its liveliness with many students dancing nearly the entire time. An extra treat for anyone interested was the ability to get a photo taken just like at a high school prom. Sam Segal provided this photo taking for only a dollar!

This great Friday night event would not have taken place without the genius idea of Pickett. When asked one of the reasons why she thought of having a college prom, she mentioned how there “were not any formals for non-Greek students,” and she wanted to see a formal where everyone could come and enjoy themselves.

In addition to this, she mentioned how the prom would be great for people who “want to get dressed up for a night,” who “missed their high school prom,” and for those who simply wanted a night off from Glar.

This idea already had immense interest from the beginning. When Pickett mentioned the idea to her residents, there was a great response to it. Then when she mentioned the idea to the RA staff, it also had popularity. And it stayed a popular idea all throughout the prom. By the day of the prom, only a few of the 200 tickets were left.

For those students who missed this prom, do not fret. Pickett mentioned that she hoped the prom might be annual if it was a success. Well, the prom was definitely a success, and there is a possibly of a prom in the spring, so those of you who did not go can go next time.
