‘Tune into L’: Upcoming Must-See Spring Concerts

The sun is shining, the snow is hopefully gone and spring is on its way. For some, spring means baseball, picnics and Easter. For me, spring means my calendar is quickly filling up with concerts because I’m tired of being stuck inside watching the snow fall. This spring there are quite a few intriguing concerts coming to our area and some are even in McDaniel’s own backyard. I’ve compiled a list of six must see concerts from mostly unheard of bands and some you may of heard of.

1. This first concert I’m going to recommend is also the shortest traveling distance. The Baltimore local indie acoustic rock band, Bond and Bentley, will be playing at Rafael’s in Westminster Mar. 12, 2010 at 9 p.m. and they will also be playing at the Greene Turtle in Westminster April 2, 1010 at 9 p.m. On their MySpace, they call themselves “what you want to jam to on a hot humid day eating a bushel of crabs drinkin’ a case of Boh and talking about the Orioles waiting for the Ravens hon.” Sounds like a good summer band. Check out their MySpace, www.myspace.com/bondandbentley , for more info and to check out their tunes.

2. This second show is a little bit longer of a drive, but still worth the gas. The local band Victory By Revenge will be playing at Rams Head Live on April 10, 2010 with Hotspur and The Dangerous Summer. Their bassist John says on their MySpace, “We’re the girl next door, without the boobs,” and I think it describes them pretty well. Visit www.myspace.com/victorybyrevenge to check out them out.

3. This third band is one of my favorites and you only have to go as far as the Pub to see them. The Ian Walsh band, consisting of Ian Walsh and Jesse Devine, will be performing an acoustic set on Thur. Mar. 11, 2010 at 9 p.m. And if you really like them you can road trip to check them out again on the “Bring Me Home Tour” April 12, 2010 at the Croc Rock in Allentown, PA. There they will be performing with The Morning of, Sparks the Rescue, and We Are the In Crowd, all on MySpace.

4. It seems as if every time The Summer Set (www.myspace.com/thesummerset ) is in town I have something to do. This show is no different so someone needs to go and enjoy them for me. I’ve heard they’re great live. The show is the AP tour. It’s at the 9:30 Club April 25. They’ll be with four other amazing bands: The Cab, Never Shout Never, Hey Monday, and Every Avenue. Check them out on MySpace and for ticket info go to www.altpress.com/theaptour .

5. This next tour is for a band that I probably won’t stop talking about until the day I die. Honor Society is coming to town again with their Here Comes Trouble tour. Trust me, there’s a reason why they say these guys don’t play performances, they throw parties. Check them out April 26, 2010 at the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC or April 29, 2010 at the Croc Rock in Allentown, PA. This tour they’re bringing with them Just Kait (www.myspace.com/justkait ), and Ashlyne Huff (www.myspace.com/ashlynehuff ).

6. This last show is with pretty well know acts such as Good Charlotte, All Time Low, Hanson, Boys Like Girls, and Forever the Sickest Kids just to name a few, but the reason you should go is this little band from Virginia called The Downtown Fiction (www.myspace.com/thedowntownfiction ). They’ll be playing at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland May 21.
