A Farewell to McDaniel Free Press

I joined McDaniel Free Press during the spring 2025 semester as a writer, unsure of where the experience might lead. As I moved into the following academic year, I was given the opportunity to step into the role of editor-in-chief—an experience that exceeded anything I could have imagined.

During my time with Free Press, I was offered opportunities I had only dreamed of. I attended the Founder Societies Gala, built relationships with multiple professors in the English Department and received invaluable guidance and support from faculty members along the way. These experiences not only strengthened my writing but also shaped my growth as a student and a leader.

While the role of editor-in-chief was not always easy, it was always rewarding. There were challenging moments, deadlines that felt overwhelming, and responsibilities that tested my abilities. Even then, I never once regretted accepting the position. Each challenge pushed me to grow, and every success reaffirmed why I chose to stay committed to Free Press.

Through this publication, I formed connections with students I may never have met otherwise and developed stronger relationships with faculty across campus. Free Press became more than an extracurricular activity—it became a community and a defining part of my college experience.

Serving as editor-in-chief strengthened my leadership skills in ways I will carry with me beyond McDaniel. Although it is bittersweet to graduate and say goodbye, I am grateful for everything Free Press has given me.

As I prepare to move on, it is time to pass the baton to the next co-editors of McDaniel Free Press. I leave knowing the publication is in capable hands, and I am confident it will continue to grow and thrive.
