Free Press brings a new era online

Stop the presses. Literally. Temporarily?

The next two issues of the Free Press will be going green and moving almost entirely onto the website (http://mcdanielfreepress.com).

Almost entirely? Yes.

Every two weeks, Free Press readers will still have some news in hand: a printed “teaser” will hit the campus to encourage readers to find full stories and awesome photographs online.

With this bold move, the Free Press joins other college newspapers in trying out another method of bringing our readers the news. We hope that you all will follow us onto the web and give us the opportunity to continue to provide content of interest to you.

The Free Press Twitter account (http://twitter.com/#!/mcfreepress) and McDaniel Free Press page on Facebook will send out messages about updates, so be sure to follow and friend us.

For students who check out the web site for the next issue, there is a contest with a prize of $50 to Regal Cinemas in Westminster. To enter, simply post a comment on an article. The names of everyone who comments will be placed in a hat, and a lucky winner will be drawn out.

In addition, the Free Press is running a Facebook contest from Feb. 22 to Mar. 1. All you have to do is write “Support the Free Press going green! Read the @McDaniel Free Press online at mcdanielfreepress.com.” You’ll need to like the McDaniel Free Press Facebook page and make sure to type @ in front of McDaniel Free Press. A contest participant will be randomly selected to win an Ipod touch. Free Press staff are ineligible.

  1. At first I was skeptical, but now this looks just fine. Also faster. Also more interactive. Was making me crazy for a while there, but it seems to work now!

    • Yeah, I agree Mike. Very classy, plus it accommodates more images, etc, and doesn't break the site if there aren't enough images. Also, stories from other sections are no longer buried.

  2. I think it’s pretty cool that you’re finally updating the Free Press website and moving the paper in a new direction. It should be interesting to see how it all goes.
