What is your major and minor? What other academic programs were you a part of?

English and sociology, minor in journalism and new media.

What are some of the jobs you held while at McDaniel?

CEO student ambassador, athletics game management and equipment room, sociology tutor, and Sodexo catering.

What organizations were you a part of at McDaniel? What positions did you hold?

McDaniel women’s basketball team (leadership council for two seasons) and Phi Sigma Sigma (multicultural officer for one semester).

Have you enjoyed your time at McDaniel? If so, what did you enjoy the most?

I absolutely loved my time at McDaniel. I found a real home on the other side of the world! The best thing about McDaniel is the people. I had great teammates and professors and have made friends for life.

Who do you think was/is your best mentor?

My McDaniel host parents, Jan and Alex, taught me so much about kindness and community and I had so many great professors including Dr. Raley, Dr. Bendel-Simso, Dr. Muhlhauser, Prof. Kathi Hill, Dr. Zajac, Dr. Lemke, and so many more who were inspiring mentors in the classroom and took the time to get to know and support their students.

Describe your favorite memory at McDaniel.

There’s too many to choose one! Homecoming is always my favorite day of the year! Our basketball trip to France and Portugal was amazing and I’ll never forget some of the great wins the basketball team had over the years. But I think the best memories I have from McDaniel aren’t from notable events or occasions but just the everyday stuff with my friends whether it was eating in Glar together, going to practice, or just hanging out in someone’s dorm. I will cherish these memories forever.

What are some of the challenges you encountered and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge for me was adjusting to a whole new life so far away from home. There were definitely times when I was homesick, but my amazing friends were always there for me with a hug or a packet of Tim Tams! Now I get homesick for McDaniel!

What are your plans for after graduation?

I’d really like to travel more so I’m looking at teaching English as a second language or an international relations master’s, but who knows where I’ll end up next!

What would you tell yourself as a first-year student at McDaniel?

Make the most of every moment, do what you can to meet new people all the time, and surround yourself with people that make you feel at home.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with the McDaniel community?

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my time at McDaniel. I never expected to fall in love with a small school on a hill in Westminster, Maryland, but thanks to the incredible friends, teammates, and professors I can now confidently say that I have an American family that I can’t wait to come back and visit!
