Field Hockey Loses to Haverford

Women’s field hockey fell 5-3 to Haverford on Saturday.

The Terror started off the game strong when senior Melissa Cohen scored just 2:08 into the half with an assist from sophomore Gabrielle Yore.

Sarah Waldis scored for the Fords two and a half minutes after Cohen to even the score 1-1.

Haverford proceeded to score two more times in the half, both goals coming from Elena Veale. The second came off a penalty stroke to increase the lead to 3-1.

Yore scored in the 27th minute of the half to lessen the score gap to 3-2 to end the first half.

Veale scored four minutes into the second half to increase Haverford’s lead again and complete a hat trick.

In the 64th minute of the game, Paige Carson scored again, and then Yore scored her 19th goal of the season with only 3:52 left in the game.

Yore broke Paige Messersmith’s 2012 record for amount of goals for one season. Messersmith had 18 goals for the 2012 season, while Yore currently has 19 goals for this season with two games left in the regular season.

Yore also tied McDaniel’s program record for career goals (35).

 

Green Terror goalie Christina Gooding made eight saves during the game.

Haverford edged out McDaniel with 20 shots and 11 penalty corners, compared to McDaniel’s 8 shots and 8 corners.

The Green Terror will play away at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, October 28 at 4pm.
